can a lawnmower engine run on its side?

Answers:
NO a vertical shaft engine ran on it's side will not get proper oil circulation. I doubt if the carburetor would even work. Get a horizontal shaft engine.

Other answers:
yes
yes
Not for long, dude.
My guess is that you are trying to run the verticle shaft at a horizontal angle, my only concern would be carborater flow as well as the positioning of the fuel cell. In order to facilitate good flow there may be a need to reallign both. There are also horizontal driven shaft engines available, good luck and god bless
If you remount the carburetor. If you don't it will flood out and leak gas every where.
Building a go cart I take it. been there done that. Have fun and good luck
No! The gasoline is gravity fed from the tank to the float chamber at the base of the carburetter.
Yes, but as far as I know only a Honda does it without sputtering
it will run - but not for long
NO a lawnmower engine is NOT designed to run sideways I own a small egine shop and I know this for a fact
Sure you can, they will run upside down even....... but a couple minutes later you'll hear some death screeches or clunking noises, and the engine will stop running... why? they are splash lubed (little spin wheel inside turned by the cam throws oil everywhere) won't be setting in oil anymore.
yes, but only if it is a 2 stroke engine.
