I recently bought an co-op apartment with hardwood floors in the living room (no access from below). In one heavily trafficked area, the floors squeak loudly (covering more than just a few planks). I have since discovered that the original installation was done directly on top of an existing parquet floor! Is there anything that can be done, short of dismantling the entire floor, putting in a new subfloor, and reinstalling the oak planks? I don't have that kind of money at the moment! Thanks.

you can try putting baby powder in the crack between boards in reduces friction and will stop some squeaks if that dose not work you'll have to face nail the boards into a solid surface below then fill with putty and stain
