No heat concluding year: changed igniter. Was chilly yesterday, turned heat up to 68 (had be on 66). Turned electric rm heater on ending night @ 4 am. Got home today and be freezing. TO THE BASEMENT: Heater was humming, open door, igniter was blazing red but no steam. Closed door and changed filter (which wasn't that bad) but no heat. Opened and closed door, checked connections but no steam and now igniter not coming on. Can conveyance igniter but if its the igniter why was is on when I first open it? Thinking igniter failed because have been running since the am hours constant. Or when I checked connections made it go out?(but I don't remember it anyone THAT delicate) Have to change igniter but won't if there's a deeper problem that will result within buying a new furnace. BTW, bought house 5 years ago & in recent times had to replace the sea heater- do they last around impossible to tell apart amount of time and therefore this desires replacing too? (I don't know if they were purchased at like peas in a pod time but am assuming)
Answers: YOU ARE NOT GETTING GAS TO THE BURNER. THE IGNITOR PROBABLY GIVES 5 TRIES AT LIGHTING GAS AND THEN IS AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF. SINCE YOU HAVE NO GAS, IT SHUTS OFF AFTER A FEW TRIES. IF YOU SHUT THE STAT OFF FOR A BIT IT MAY TRY(HEAT UP) AGAIN. YOU NEED TO FIND OUT WHY YOU HAVE NO GAS OR WHY THE GAS VALVE IS NOT OPENING. M THERE ARE SEVERAL ELECTRICAL PARTS INVOLVED IN GETTING THE ELECTRICITY TO THE VALVE AND YOU WILL LIKELY NEED A SCHEMATIC TO TRACK DOWN THE PROBLEM. YOU WILL ALSO NEED A MULTIMETER AND YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM IF YOU ARE NOT ADEPT AT THIS SORT OF THING. THE PAPER WITH THE SCHEMATIC SHOULD BE AVAILABLE ON THE FURNACE SOMEWHERE. OTHERWISE YOU MAY BE ABLE TO FIND IT ON THE MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE. SOME MANUFACTURERS RESTRICT THE INFORMATION TO AUTHORIZED SERVICEMEN.
WATER HEATER LIFE WILL VARY DEPENDING ON THE QUALITY OF THE WATER SUPPLY AND THE TEMPERATURE ALSO I THINK. IT IS ABOUT 12 YRS IN MY AREA..
1st, i'd check to make sure the gas spout to the furnace is "on", or it could be a problem in the gas spout in the furnace itself, or you may own a faulty curcuit board. may be best to own a tech out to check it out. if you have a bud within the trade he cuold check it out, probally for a beer or two. then you can replace the portion yourself. good luck.
