Oven not retaining warmth. My wife is gonna execute me! please lend a hand.?

I have a G E XL44 gas oven. Recently it have not been competent to reach boil of 400 degrees, it narrowly reaches 300. Every item else is functioning fine. I took out the bottom today, set it to 400 degrees and when i open the door to check on it, the flame just go out. It seems to function solely when it wants to. Any suggestions?
