Painters will charge more if the wall needs a lot of prep work - i.e. uneven surface, lots of holes, replace drywall in areas, stains that need special primer coats, that kind of thing.
They also charge extra if you're painting a different color on the ceiling and/or trim. Can't forget moldings and amount of doors and windows too.
