What's the cost of removing asbestos from your home?
Answers:
A home of about 1400 square feet, with nothing more than asbestos siding, manufactured in the 1940s, is right around 10 thousand dollars in the state of NC. Hope that gives you some idea. We have such a home and we checked into all options. Everything was way to expensive so it was easier and cheaper for us to leave the siding and just "restore the house. Hope this helps some.

no cost is worth your life or lungs..if your home has asbestos..removing it may disturb much of it into the air..for you and others living there to breathe..The cost is much cheaper to buy a new home...good luck.. and good health..

It depends on how much and where it is. It may be possible to encase it rather than remove it. Get some estimates from people who do it.
Depending on what Asbestos you want removed..siding is definitly cheaper to do than inside the house..inside area is curtained off completely with only an air makeup/hepa filter unit supplying air to the area that the asbestos is being removed..then a water/glue spray is applied over the asbestos and it is scraped away and cleaned into special haulage bags..the area is vacummed with a special vacuum and then the area is inspected for any airborne spores..this can be rather costly..in the neighborhood of $5-20 per sq yd.
First - my qualifications. I'm a construction superintendent currently supervising the asbestos abatement and demolition of a Las Vegas casino & hotel. I have been trained in the proper abatement and disposal techniques of asbestos. The project that I am on consists of the remediation of asbestos in 24 buildings, and the asbestos is located in the acoustical spray in the ceilings, the linoleum and glue on the floor, and the exterior skin of the buildings.
Now, in the Las Vegas area, the cost of removing asbestos is about $1.50 to $2.00 per sf of asbestos material, including full abatement and disposal. This includes fully certified workers and full compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
Asbestos is a regulated hazerdous material by the EPA and your state environmental authority. In order to remove it, you must conform with strict abatement practices in order to ensure your safety.
There are two general types of asbestos material: Friable and Non-Friable. Friable is the most dangerous, as it releases asbestos into the air. Once asbestos is released into the air, it does not settle to the ground. It continues to stay in the air, unless wetted down or inhaled. Non-Friable asbestos does not release into the air unless crushed, at which point it becomes Friable.
In addition, if your asbestos containing material (ACM) is less than 1% asbestos, then you do not need to comply with EPA regulations. You will have to check with your state environmental regulators to see if they have stricter standards.
This is not a do it yourself project. You will need experts who are fully trained in the proper abatement of asbestos, and who have the proper equipment (i.e. suits, respriators, negative air machines, disposal containers, a certified disposal site). I would recommend that you call your state environmental regulator and see who they recommend.
