Do I need to turn off the pilot light off in a gas-fireplace in Summer?

I have a gas fireplace (Heat-N-Glo) in master bedroom. This fireplace has a switch on the wall just like a regular switch for any house lights. The pilot seems a lot bigger than the one seen in gas stove.

I am just wondering if it is needed to turn the pilot light off in the summer. If it is good to do, who can do it? If I can do it, how?

Thanks!

Answers:
A gas pilot light has a valve that, when you shut it off, will turn off the gas pilot.

All you do is turn off the gas valve...(yes, you can do it!).

Now, when you go to turn it on, read the iinstruction. It may be like a "furnace" and you have to turn the valve and push it down to start the pilot light, then turn it to on. (basically all gas valves have this, on boilers and furnaces).

I would do so, because your needlessly putting heat into the house and defeat the A/C, and also your burning gas for no reason at all :)

It will be real easy to turn it off and on.

I wish you well..

I found this at the Heat N Glo website. See if it looks familiar. Shows step by step how to light it. So just go backwards. m
