Can I leave electrical wires from an electrical box unwired to anything?

I disconnected a light fixture and couldn't connect the new one. Can I leave the wiring unconnected to anything?

Answers:
i would cap bare wires with wire nuts an make sure they dont touch anything

Other answers:
And then tape the wire nuts on. And if possible you should turn off the breaker to the wires until you do a permanent fix.

Yes you ken.The only thing that I find funny is that I never in 47 years of electrical work, found a light fixture you couldn't mount.Do what they said in your answers. But you don't half to close the breaker to that circuit,on-lest you like the dark.Tag a note on wire (light fixture removed) have a nice day..
