Do anyone know why my smoke detector goes off and yet there is no smoke nor fire in the house?

Why does it do that?

Answers:
It does it just to tick you off! It probably likes to do it the most around 3AM. Am I right?

All joking aside...

The most common cause of nuisance alarms on home smoke detectors is dust.

I would consider using a vaccum cleaner attachment on the unit. The can of air suggestion someone made can work good too. But not everyone has these.

Replacing the battery is never a bad idea if it's been awhile. But I've personally never seen a battery replacement fix a detector that was sounding falsely. Just the ones with the case of the "chirps", which is meant to signal a low battery.

Is the unit connected to other detectors in the house? Newer homes often include this feature, but the drawback is if one goes off, they all go off. So it can be tricky to find the culprit in a "false alarm" situation. If this is the case, you may have to clean them all. If that doesn't do it, I'd get one replacement unit and start "chaging them out" one at a time, until they shut up!

If it's a stand alone detector and cleaning doesn't do the trick. I'd just get a replacement and pitch the thing. I think it would be $10 well spent.

Good Luck.

change the battery!
change the battery!
your house is haunted
change the batteries
Check your batteries.
maybe the battery gone
The batteries probably need to be changed.
Have you changed the batteries? If it's electric you might want to call an electrician.
You have short - buy a new one - they are cheap and can save your life.
Maybe because of the heat in the room
Because it's telling you that you need to change the batteries in it.
If it goes off in periodic intervals your battery might need to be changed.
I had this same problem, and it always happened between 2 and 3 in the morning.

I called the manufacturer and they suggested it was either dust or spiders in the detector and to vacuum them out. I did and haven't had a problem since.
Battery or maybe steam from the shower.
Get some glass so you can see the smoke.
Depending on the unit it could be dirty or, if near the bathroom, could be responding to steam from the shower. Also, if the battery is low it may cause the alarm to sound.
Maybe the batteries are needing changed, ours keeps making noises when the batteries are low.
U must have a real sensitive one like mine. I have to take it off before I start cooking on the stove b/c I know if I'm just boiling water its gonna go off.
some fumes can set the detector off. and check your battery.
Could be theres something wrong with your batteries. Try changing them.
steam can set them off sometimes.

mine did the same thing a few days ago. it just starting beeping for no aparent reason.
Either it needs new batteries or if it's hardwired you probably need to vacum it out...they get dusty.
Change the battery
ur batteries are dying
Probably the battery.

Also, make sure it's not a carbon monoxide detector. Carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless and can easily kill you. Make sure your house is safe!
Battery, short, smoke(from cooking nearby, oven)...hell just replace it, it'd be worth the extra few $ if it saves your life!!
If it is electric there is a fuse that has to be changed. I got mine replaced with a battery operated one because the fuses were hard to find
if you have a good smoke detector..it may be detecting chemicals in your house.
For example oven cleaner sets mine off.
when we got a new dryer the first time we used it the chemicals they use to prevent mildew in the machine set the alarm off.
and once it was getting wet when the roof was leaking and it went off then.
also check the batteries they might be low.
I will find out and get back to you on that.
Check the batteries, they may be low. Another possibility, sometimes when I cook certain things mine go off. It is usually chicken that does it, when it is done in the oven, nothing is burning, nothing is smoking, it's just sometimes the oven gives off a scent I guess.
Just replace it with a new smoke detector.
