how do you prime a water well?
Answers:
Certainly not an authority on it but if I remember correctly you pour water down until there is enough water to allow you to pump and you get water. You may even need a new (Don't know what it is called--rubber thingie down the pipe. ) It may be dried out and not allow a suction.
Other answers:
Priming means filling the pump and suction pipe with water. You must evacuate the air from all the suction lines and the pump. It may take several minutes to prime depending on depth to water, pipe size and length. Note: it is easier to prime a pump if you allow all the air to escape from the pump and pipes. The water cannot go in unless the air can escape.

If the pump is good, then the usual method is to open the plug on the top of the casing, pour water down into the casing to fill it and start the pump. Continue pouring water into the opening till it starts shooting straight up out of the hole, then put the plug back in. That usually means it's pumping. The pressure should start building almost immediately. You will most likely get wet, but that's not unusual. I've tried many methods to prime well pumps and this method works nearly every time. You will, however, need a good supply of water at hand.
