Plumber/HVAC, isn't max allowable pressure for ng lines inside bldg. 5.0 psig?
Answers: blocked vent
I have never see a pressure max on gas lines inside a building. Given that 5 pounds per sq inch gage will supply one heck of a lot of therms of gas i am sure that some factory restrict that to the max pressure allowable.
Factories, particularly those using abundantly of gas, us gas pressures higher that that within supply lines. What happens here is that a column is designed for one furnace. Then two even three more furnaces are added and thus a higher pressure is required to supply the factory.
I dont regard as that 5 psi or any limit is set on gas pressures inside a building. And why would it be? There are many other gas that are much more dangerous that flow thru lines at pressure surrounded by the thousand of pounds per sq inch. Why would natural gas be picked on specifically? Doesnt sort sense. I doubt it to be true and have never see such a spec written anywhere.
Possibly a local code might restrict it to 5, but nationally, none I know of.
