How can I fix a bathtub and tiles that were "painted" previously and now the paint is chipping off?
- Is it possible to repaint it?
- Get a whole new bathtub and tiles?
- Get one of those bathtubs that fit over an old bathtub?
- Another option I'm not thinking of?
Does anyone know the pros and cons, level of difficulty, and approximate costs of these options? Thanks.

I used to be in the resurfacing business. You can use paint stripper to remove the old material. Many resurfacers use epoxy ( which has a tendency to chip and peel easily ) as it is much cheaper than the high solids urethane materials specially formulated for resurfacing. To answer your other questions, the longest lasting and most durable solution is to replace both tile and tub. It is also the most time consuming and expensive. The tile and tub could be resurfaced again. If done correctly, you can expect 5-10 years of life. As far as price, that depends on where you live as much as anything else. A ballpark estimate would be between $1,000-1,500. For that kind of money you could buy a new tub, and everything to re-tile the surround if you do it yourself. A tub liner won't deal with the tile problem, and these don't last that long either when compared to the price. Hope the info helps.
