use amdro its sold in feed stores or over and out it works quickly in about 3 days this is for outdoor use and spreading powdered lime helps too
Ortho Orthene Fireant Killer in the funny shaped bottle with the yellow cap is the best thing I used for fireants.
For something nonpoisonous that will discourage ants, use Dr. Bonner's Pepermint Oil Liquid Castile Soap mixed with water. It won't kill them, but it'll make them take thierselves elsewhere away from where it was used.
