What is the best way to level a yard to put a small above ground pool in? Dig out or build up with dirt?

The pool is only 10' in diameter. It is one of the vinyl pools with the inflatable rings on top. I first tried it with fairly unlevel ground but quickly found that it was not going to work that way.

Answers:
Level it with sand, easy to spread and level off, if you just need to fill low spots.

For more work, especially if the area is a bit steep, dig out half and use that soil to build up the other half, and maybe use sand to give a nice level surface and to diminish potential rocks from poking into the pool. However, the fill side may settle under the enormous weight of the pool and eventually make an unven bottom in the pool.

For best results, and even more work, and to get a very firm surface, dig the entire area.

Other answers:
do both- dig out on one side and use it to build up the other. it's a lot of work but it's worth it. good luck and enjoy!

dig.

Think about it - if you build up you still have to wait for the ground to settle with the pressure on top of it.... if you dig then ground has already been settled and compressed by the lovely mother nature!
If you have easy access to clean fill, it is easier to build up.
well, it depends on the condition of the yard, and the soil you want to put this pool on.

since it is inflatable, you want to make sure the soil has NO rocks, and is very soft, no debris, no sticks, no hard clumps or sharp objects, this goes for any type of pool infact.

then, does the land bulge, or sink? if there is a buldge where you want to put the pool, level it out, until it is nice and flat.

if the area sinks, then fill it until it is flat.
i would say either it really depends on the dirt in the area and stuff like that...
We have sand under the bottom of our pool it is a 28ft. above ground, you spread out the sand and level it, spray with water and tamp it down so it is really compact. Use the a fine grade sand.
Sorry, but you've got to dig the high side down. If you build up the low side the soil will compact and leave the thing out of level.
