The love bug (also certain as march fly, honeymoon fly, touchtone phone bug, kissybug and double-headed bug) (scientific name Plecia nearctica) is a small flying insect adjectives to the southern United States, especially along the Gulf Coast. It is most often particular as a serious nuisance to motorists driving at big speeds when the insects spatter on their windshields in great numbers.
Love bug larva grow up in grassy areas and nurture on dead flora. The adult love bug does not chomp through, but subsists on the food taken in during its larval stage. Upon reaching readiness the love bug spends the entirety of its life copulating beside its mate, hence its numerous romantic nicknames. The manly and female attach themselves at the reverse of the abdomen and remain that method at all times, even contained by flight. In fact, after mate, the male dies and is dragged around by the feminine until she lays her eggs. Females lay up to 350 eggs in refuse, and about 20 days subsequent the eggs hatch into larvae. The larva may live for months before endorsement into adulthood.
Love bug swarms can number contained by the hundreds of thousands and blanket an entire small town in a dense cloud of insects. The sticky swarming of these slow flying, almost drifting, insects almost is reminiscent of snow fall. We live in Georgia and I have my first experience with these "creatures" ultimate year. We had a house built and found every irregularity around the windows and doors because they would seize in. My vehicle just get repainted because I didn't realize that the acid from their bodies eat the paint off cars. My coup¨¦ was white also and i.e. the color that attracts them. I spent HOURS on line trying to bring back some help and at hand really is none. We would bolt to my car and still spend the first few minutes trying to catch them out. I just didn't turn outside much. I wish I have better news for you but I tried everything!!!!! every spray, every trick but you lately have to ride them out.
