Do I really own to hang on to seed within the fridge for 6 weeks?

I've recently bought some seed that state they should be kept in the fridge for 6 weeks!

I recognize this makes the seed think its winter but wouldn't a week or 2 suffice? Followed by some melt water and consequently planting in a propagator?

Does the extra time generate any difference?

Answers:    Try to stick to 6 weeks if possible to impart you the best chance of germination. 6 weeks isn't long when you compare it to winter which is 3 months.

Plants the seed in you own weekly pots http://www.nuganics.com.au/2008/01/18/ho...
