Propane gas is already sky high in price. What is some good ways to heat my home?
Answers:
Try a wood stove or a wood pellet stove. They work much better than a regular fireplace, they fit into your existing fireplace and they take all the smoke out of the stove as long as you release the valve so that it burns hotter but faster. If you have the valve closed it'll burn slower but cooler and if you open up the door the smoke will come right out at you.
But personally I haven't seen propane prices to be bad at all. In fact yesterday when I went with my mom to get propane for our cooking grill I did some quick math and propane was like $2.15 a gallon! I don't know who the provider of your propane is but you should probably do some shopping if it's more expensive than $2.15.
Plus make sure your windows are thermally sealed well. Old houses' windows have a tendency to release energy (from A/C or heating) that you want to stay inside your home. If you have old windows you may want to consider replacing them as they may be the culprit of many of your hard-earned dollars you spend on your propane.
There are of course electrical heating alternatives but the switch to that would depend on your current electrical bills and if would save you money to actually switch over the long run.
Then there is the most common type of heating around in heating oil but of course the prices for that are getting rather ridiculous too. I'd suggest getting a wood stove if you live in a rural area or a wood pellet stove, those are really nice if they have the automatic thing that lets in small amounts of pellets at a time to keep the temperature the same.
But do some shopping around and see what you can find for the cheapest price. I know prices for energy sources vary by region and country these days so I can't tell you much from personal experience.

With the high price of gas, last winter, I purchased four oil filled electric heaters. I was able to keep the entire house warm with them. My electric bill was higher than normal but still less than it would have been running my furnace.
Pellet stove. It uses wood pellets for fuel, which you buy in bags.
At my house we put comforters (blankets) all over the ceiling and then we put candles all over every counter (heat) and we also leave evry light on ALL the time, also have a few electric heaters for a little extra bang, In the kids room we also have the blankets on the walls and windows.
