Where do bumble bees live?

The queen will make a nest in any crevice she can find that will offer protection, holes in walls, and facias, piles of timber etc. I had a nest in the lining of my pond last year. . We disturbed the nest and the swarm of about 10 or 12 bees came out and circled the nest in a funnel but everyone in the garden stood very still and the bees soon returned to their nest and we made sure that we didn't touch that side of the pond again until they left. Unfortunately we don't have a nest in the garden this year.

and they took up residence in a pile of rubble that had been removed when i opened up an old fireplace..........i had to leave the pile there for weeks as they got peeved whenever i tried to shift it when finally remove there was beeswax and honey.
In the Spring, female bumble bees come out of hibernation and search for a nest site, they like holes made by other animals. Old mouse holes are a favourite. You can get bumble bee boxes, and you need to bait them with used mouse bedding to make them more attractive. They go by the size of the hole, and the smell.
Bumble bees don't make honey and they don't live in hives. The queen lays the eggs and the young hatch, then leave. Males die in winter and the fertilised females hibernate.
