What do cockroach eggs look like?

I moved into my apartment about 2 months ago and just saw a huge cockroach in my apartment. I'm scared to death...so scared I can't even kill it. I know if I step on it it will release a sac filled with eggs. My question is what should I do and secondly how do I recognize if there are lay eggs embedded in my carpetting or hiding in my apartment. What do these eggs look like (color, size, description)?

Answers:
If you moved in 2 mos ago and you have not seen any till now you are probably getting them from a neighbor. They probably had their place treated by themselves or professionally. When chemical is used their natural instinct is survival and the chemical will make them dis purse. The roaches travel pipes and this way they travel from unit to unit. Personally, I would contact the landlord and see if they will pay to have your place treated. I also would try to capture the roach in a pill bottle (don't squish it) so someone can identify what type it is. Some chemicals work better on some types than others. After catching one, you should step on or kill everyone you see till you've been treated. Trust me, if you kill one and a egg sac should drop off you will see it and you must step on it or flush it. Good luck to you.

Here's a picture. Yuk.
go to your local hardware store and ask for ortho boric acid, then put it in shallow lids like pringles can lids or something of that sort, make sure it will stay dry, put under stove, fridge, in the back of the under sink cabinet, in the back of any cabinet where the stuff cant get on open dishes . in the corner of the bathroom, as long as you dont have a small child or nosey pet, it will make pets ill but wont kill them. when the roaches walk through dry boric acid powder it enters their side gills and they start to dry out from the inside out, it will dry the eggs out too, as far as the look of the egs, im not sure but stomp on any you see and the boric acid should do its trick in about two weeks , i did this in an atlanta apartment house and it killed them off and they didnt come back. whereas when sprayed they were back in a day or two. if you have an attatched garage you can also put it there and in the back of closets, etc.
Black or brownish dots on things and terrible smell. Don' leave any food out and have an uncluttered house is easier. to manage the problem. Suggestion above re boric acid worked for my brother too.

If you see one, swat it or step on it. They just crunch. Then wipe it up. The egg sack usually can be seen hanging out the tail.
They lay an egg case, looks like somewhat flaaten capsule brown in color and about 1/2 in. long. They like to lay hem in dark places. Look in rim of your plant pots, behind pictures on the wUnless you exterminate the roacheall. folds of draperies, etc. PPick the capsule off and flush it. Unless you exterinate the roaches you will be on a perpetual search for the egg capsules.
