i live in southern illinois and found nearly 50 of these bugs on my 5 sunflowers. they loom a little approaching a beetle, but also like a palm leaf bug. i really just requirement to know if their harming my plant, and i want it identifyed for a project at school. thankfulness!

This sounds like what we phone up a japanise beetle.....It will probably not do any harm to your plant........since it is so unpunctually in the season.
