Opinions on Polish Boleslawiec stoneware quality/glaze fit problem.?
After this experience, I don't know if I want to invest in any more of this type of stoneware.
I would like other people's opinions. Is this a common occurence? Are some manufacturers producing poor qualities of goods? Could this have been originally a "Seconds"? (I assumed such would not be sold, or would be marked as such.)
Some of my other peices showed crackling, but since these were small dishes and boxes, I assumed they weren't for eating anyway, so it wasn't an issue.
Do I deserve a replacement by the seller?

I have had similar problems with other products from the same web site, with remarkably satisfactory results from the dealer which I purchased it from. You should contact the dealer and fully explain your problem and what you would like dun to fix the unpleasant experience you encountered with there product, ASAP...If you are not satisfied with the service from the dealer, contact PayPal or your mode of payment and make a formal complaint...I am sure you will be happy with the out come of your shopping experience....Good Luck....

I collect Polish pottery, also. You do have to be careful on e-bay and get a very detailed photo(s) and description. Unikat is a kind of "everyday" pattern. I have no idea if this corresponds to its quality. People do go to Europe and buy seconds, though. When I go to Germany, I buy Polish stoneware and one of the names I buy is Bunzlauer. This is produced in Germany, as were other types that are called Polish, when Poland was still Germany. You might look into Bunzlauer. There is a shop in Pike Place Market in Seattle that sells Polish stoneware at discounted prices and it is good quality. None of my pieces have cracked or crazed and I use them all the time, including in the oven.

Also (adding to the above) with the obscure names you really cant be sure of what the glaze is and if it could be leeching into your food (mercury, lead for 2 examples).
No on the refund unless the seller specializes in Unikat and no on using it ever again for anything you eat or drink.
good luck
