There is an orange thing growing in my yard. It looks like a carrot growing upside down, but sprouting up!?

Any thoughts of what it may be? Could it be a type of fungus?

Sounds like some sort of fungus/mushroom. If you have pets get rid of it, don't take a chance with fido running into it and eating it and then getting sick on you.
I think some girl planted a carrot upside down in your yard as a practical joke. She's probably laughing her head off right now, imagining you worrying about it. I remember once how a girl I knew got some of her friends together and they planted 5000 plastic forks in some guys lawn at night. The father ran over them with the lawn mower.
