I have loads of snails in my garden. Are they edible and if so how do I cook them? Has anyone else tried this?

Check out my Yahoo! 360 page for a picture of the snails I found in one night in my garden. There are about 60.

I wouldn't be averse to eating them (although I'd leave some for the birds) if they were edible as they're wrecking some of my plants and I don't want to just kill them with pellets or poison as that seems like a waste, because then not even the birds can have them.

Has anyone else tried this?

I'm not a snail expert... but I did come across this site that has pictures identifying the "edible" snails and how to cook them. They're kind of cute if they weren't such pests.
