A Squirrel question?
Answers:
10 years is a long time for one squirrel have you ever seen ANY baby squirrels anywhere of any type - they tend to hide themselves quite well until maturity. Now on to your actual question .... I would guess the marking is actually a localized trait passed down through a local population, but not a specific separate species. The big three types of squirrels I know of are Red, Grey and Black ... I am sure there are more though. Your state conservation agency should be able to tell you precisely though. By the way, too bad about the shallow minded responses earlier - keep asking good questions.

No, I cannot answer the question, but I do want to say I am sorry that some one gave such a rude and unnecessary answer to you question. I hope some one has a decent answer for you! Bugsie
I do have a thought though...Is it maybe a chipmunk????
depending on your location my guess is across between a fox and a black squirrel
I heard someone tell me about this and he was a biology teacher, and he said they're called "black squirrels".
I would bet bet that it's a fox squirrel if you live up north they are found heavily in the mountains and are predominatly darker than their smaller cousins which tend to live in most rural areas
I could tell you about him, good for lunch. Wating to know what sides you had. Let me know.
Im curious to see a photo! We have black squirels out here in NW chicagoland, but i've never seen a black bellied squirrel
