Can I put bleach in my outdoor pool to get rid of the smell?
Answers:
NO WAY!! Bleach isn't suppose to contact your skin. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and ask someone who works there. I know they sell stuff designated to pool's only...
Other answers:
Never mix bleech with ANY other chemical, it can be poisinous.
Consult a pool cleaning service.

Not when the kids are in it.
Yes, but not too much. Get a test kit and keep track of the chlorine level of the pool. Don't mix chemicals.
Strongly recommend you take a sample of the water to a pool supply store, have them analyze it. Sounds like no one has been taking care of the water (or doing it haphazardly). You have what is called an algae condition. Frankly, you may have to drain it, clean the pool, and re-fill it.
Have it checked first. I had an inground pool in AZ for twenty years. You have to stay on top of it. It's not difficult, only takes a few minutes per day.
We have been adding 1 cup of bleach per day to our above ground pool for the last 5 years..Pool is 15' in diameter 3' deep. We find that it clears the water and prevents the smell..And the kids are still alive !
If you aren't going to take care of it properly then take it down. It will quickly become a community health hazard. Either get a test kit and spend the 5 minutes daily to upkeep the thing or just kill the pool. Why do you want a mosquito pond in your yard/neighborhood?
