what are good alarms for the house?
Answers:
The primary reason to install door alarms is for security. Door alarms protect your property and goods and increase the safety of your loved ones; they provide a warning that someone is making entry into your home or business.
When people think of door alarms, they generally think of two basic types: the automated security systems that are installed on homes and businesses to protect against burglary; and the more commonplace type of door alarm that uses a buzzer, beep or sound to notify a business owner that someone has entered or exited the premises. The variety of these types of door alarms is extremely broad-ranging from the highly sophisticated that requires professional installation, to simple plug-in models that are ready to use right out of the box.
Home door alarms: In their simplest form, doors and windows are fitted with magnetic contact strips along the door or window and the frame. When the contact is broken, an alarm sounds and the information is sent to the control panel. Some systems are designed to send that signal to a security company or to the local law enforcement; others are designed only to alert the homeowner-and frighten off intruders.
Business door alarms: Particularly in a small business, the owner or sales staff can't always be watching for someone to walk through the front door. By installing a door alarm, employees can go about their work and will be made aware when anyone enters. These door alarms can improve customer service--and cut down on the theft of inventory. Many door alarms sound off when merchandise tagged with special security devices passes through the threshold.
Advances through the years have brought about battery operated wireless door alarms that are easy to install. These newer door alarms are relatively inexpensive and reliable. You no longer have to hire an electrician to run the wires through the ceiling or walls. Hence, many people now install their own door alarms.

Studies have shown (don't you hate it when people say that) that a dog that barks (size doesn't matter much) is the single best crime deterrent and alarm system available. Plus, they are great companions!
May God bless (and protect) you!
p.s. Shelties are great for this.
A VERY BIG DOG,in the yard people think twice before trying to get in your house, its just me and my daughter at home but we have a dog, and so far we have not had any trouble, and i live in a tough neighborhood, been here for 11 years.
sloman shield...how about a dog?? a friend by day, protector by night...
1. Get a fake "protected by Acme Security" sign for the yard.
2. Adopt a dog. Any dog that can bark. Dogs are your first defense and will alert you long before you would ever hear something. Criminals will move on when they hear a dog.
Donkeys, goats and guinea hens are great watch dogs too but I doubt you are able to get some. LOL
Most people I know end up disarming their burglar alarms due to the cost and hassle of use. Personally, my chihuahua is the best alarm system I've ever had. he can hear someone long before an alarm would go off.He also indicates friend or foe on scent alone while the person is outside with the door shut. Educate your kids on what to do in a fire, if there is an emergency including what your full name is. It's difficult to help a kid when your only name is "Mommy". I taught my kids what to do if someone tried to nab them. Be calm and matter of fact and empower them.Don't scare them. Work as a team.Every person now is integral part of this family unit. Hey sometimes having a man around is a dangerous thing. The leading cause of death among pregnant women is death because of a husband or boyfriend. Sad but true. You will be fine. You are strong.I believe in you.
