What is the best thing to use to get rid of fire ants?

I've tried a few different poisons, but it doesn't seem to help. Instead of killing them it seems the poison just makes them move to a different spot in the yard.

Answers:
Sprinkle uncooked rice along the path they are walking on. They will pick up the rice peices and take them back to the ant hill. There, they will ingest the rice, which will expand inside them and kill them by sort of blowing them up from the iniside out. It really works, and you avoid any dangerous chemicals, etc.

Sounds crazy - but an exterminator told me to get small pieces of paper and put honey and yeast on them where the ants will get them.
Then, they will take it to their nest (honey is the bait ) and when they eat the yeast with the honey it will expand and their bodies are rigid and cannot tolerate the expansion. It will kiil them.
It works! like a charm, but it has to be where you can tolerate the ants swarming while they take the bait. Indoors is probably not good, but it has worked everytime outdoors.
I know that cayenne pepper will stop them from entering a building once put by doorways and window sills, you may have to flood the area a few times with water to get rid of them though.
I have found that Amdro works the best. You can get it at Wal Mart.
