I want to enjoy bonfires this comming trip up..I never hosted one until that time, Where can I buy a fire pit ??
I was wondering where on earth I can get a fire pit...
My one friend said I could purely dig a divot(sp?) surrounded by the ground and make that my fire pit, but not just have I hear that is a desperate idea but my grandmother would be up set because it is going to be contained by her yard...so any tips??
Answers: Ok, your individual 14. So I'm going to rule out anything that requires welding or using a adjectives torch. Also, I'm going to rule out anything that is going to cost more than $50 to build or buy.
In that budget, you can build a nice firepit from full-size rocks that you (and some buddies) collect from nearby woods or a creekbed. You'll want some that are just about the size of a football. Get enough to build up a circle at most minuscule 4' across, and two rocks high.
For the inside, be in motion and buy some bags of sand from any building supply store, roughly speaking five or six should be enough.
Now for the restricted that will make Grandma lively.
Get a cheap plastic tarp from the building supply store too. A 8' X 10' one is fine. The blue kind is the one I'm discussion about.
Now, cut the tarp to fit inside the firepit bottom, you want it to walk right up to the rocks, but not up the sides.
Now, take the sand and pour it over the tarp, covering it up completely. You can't enjoy any tarp showing, and it needs to be at least possible 3-4" deep. Use any piece of sliver lumber to drag across it and make it smooth and stratum.
Now, use a garden hose to wet it. Just a bit bit. You want the sand damp, not running river.
Now, take the board and pack the sand down really firm.
This will produce a great fire proof floor for you to build your campfire on, and after the party you of late scoop out as much sand as you can, afterwards fold up the tarp towards the middle (forming a carrying pouch) and all of the sand and ashes are gone. Remove the rocks and the courtyard should be just fine.
The damp sand works to keep the grill from damaging the tarp and the grass underneath, while the tarp make clean up afterwards a breeze. Any bits of remaining sand can be rake into the grass and should disappear.
Total cost: Maybe $25
A word of advise, ANYTIME you own a fire going, please make sure that you never depart from it unattended, and always hold a means of putting it out if you obligation to. Keep a garden hose handy. And don't build it bigger than you can put out.
Lowe's. Or listen to your friend and dig a hole.....stripe it with a metal peak or grating then surround the hole next to cement blocks. Worked for me.
