why are the majority of buildings and properties post 1950 ugly?! are we losing taste?

I think you are right. The older buildings, both commercial and residential, seemed to have more style and character. The commercial glass box skyscrapers of the 1970's are giving way to building designs that offer more visual interest. High end homebuyers can afford to pay for architectural interest in their dwellings, but for the mass market, style gives way to price.

i agree!..i like the old houses..they were more ornate and had character...you could tell a lot of blood sweat and tears went into the making of it... these new houses all look alike....if i drank i would come home and pick the wrong one!!

I agree to a certain extent. But even moreso it seems that older homes are more spaceous. It almost equivalent to how cars used to be bigger. Also, the materials used today are probably cheaper, but don't quote me on that.
