I told a salesman that I don't have an alarm or want one. Should I worry that he will break into my house?
Answers:
I work for SecureNet Alarm Systems, Inc. and no you should not be worried if the person was asking you if you wanted an alarm system, and he was selling alarms.
If you had proven that this person was a salesperson from a security company, why would they try to break into your house if they were trying to sell you security in the first place. People that are working to make homes more safe and secure are not interested in crime unless they are helping to prevent it.
It is always good to have a security system in your home, like one answer said, and you do not have to have it monitered... but it is always a very very good option. There are ways that even if your phone lines are cut (which is what 80% of break-ins consist of) that the back-up communicator will still connect to the monitering station and dispatch the police.
I believe an alarm system is the way to go, but of course I am biased.
Beware of criminals and door to door scams though, as always. Make sure that the salesperson has some sort of identification as to what they are selling and that they are affiliated with the company that they speak of, because you really don't want to give out information to any strangers, ( as mom always said! )
Be happy, and especially safe. Good luck!

no, don't be silly.
no, don't be silly.
Did someone show up at your door selling alarms and then you told the stranger that you didn't have a home alarm?
yes - worry
If it eases your mind, go to your local wal-mart, target, k-mart or whatever and spend $9.00 on a set of those first alert alarms. They just stick on and operate on a battery, which is included in the package, comes with 4 alarms, and they are very loud, plenty loud enough to scare someone away and alert you that someone is trying to break in. They can go on doors, windows, and even cabinets or drawers if you have young children. Hope this helps.
No, unless he was neighbourhood cat burglar who is trying to ruin his own career by selling alarms.
No don't worry. Just leave your house unlocked and save him the bother of smashing a window or something.
Why would you say that? If you get a call, on a product you don't want, just say you already have one and are on contract and you won't break it because of the fees.
Never know in this day and time the scams going around .
Are you sure he was a salesman. Contact the company he represents and ask if they had a salesman in the area.
Next time tell the alarm salespeople you are not interested because you are a gun dealer that works out of the home and are there 24/7. It is better because the three guard dogs don't get lonely. Then excuse yourself as if you don't close the door in 15 seconds the alarm will go off.
