My Mom of blessed memory once gave me a present 15 years ago of a small cactus which I put on my balcony. Later, when I saw it was getting too big to be kept at home, I planted it in a corner of my garden. Today this cactus has a wide-spread base with long, heavy, serrated leaves (used by cats to sit and enjoy the sun) and its central spread is about 3 meters by 3 meters. However, it has sprouted a spear-like column which now reaches over 5 meters or more and is still going strong (in a couple of weeks, I expect it to rise above the telephone pole. It is in a shape of a large, sleek, round spear made up of folded leaves which are slowly opening. I have never seen anything like it. I think I should approach the Guiness Records people! I'm also scared the neighbors will take objection and start fussing about this monster. I have no intention of harming it in any way but I would like to know how high it plans to go! Anybody know what I'm describing? Anyone?
