If your room gets flooded and you have carpeting, is it better to turn the heaters on or the AC or both?
Answers:
Turn air conditioning on for maximum drying in summer; open windows to speed drying in winter. Be sure you put blocks or squares of plastic under the legs of furniture so the wood does not get damaged or the water does not seep up into the wood.
Also, the above post is correct depending on the type of water you have. Flood water or sewer water most of the time requires getting rid of the carpeting.

I'd try to soak up as much as possible FIRST. Then, if you have one of those "water vacuums" use it. After that, turn on the heat. Heat will remove moisture quicker than cold air will -- although you have a very valid point about the A/C.

I'm not familiar with how AC works. If it does indeed use a dehumidifier, that would be best.
Depending on the damage, you might need to replace the carpet and what's under it, b/c of mold. But, the best immiediate solution is to get a dehumidifier to suck the moisture out of the air.
