what are the pros and cons of buying a home with a septic tank?
Answers:
I have had a septic system all my life., except for only a few years on public sewage. They are not that bad really, you 1st should see if the system has been put in by a good contractor,(ask for the contract) if you are buying a home with the septic system already there. If you keep yeast or any of the over the counter septic chemicals added to your system at least once a year, it will keep your solid waste in liquid form, which drains out through your lateral lines. I was told by a city worker that the cost of disposing of sewage will triple in 3 -5 yrs because the cost to the city is becoming quite expensive. So you just have to weigh it for yourself. Oh bye the way, the worst thing for a sewer system is tree roots. Just don't plant trees close to your lateral lines, cause trust me, they are a hell of a mess to get them out., other than that, but where ever your lateral lines are, you will have a beautiful lawn. Hee Hee, see all your crap is good for something, lol !!

There are no pros. If you can get a house that's connected to a sewer, get it.

The only pro I can think of is that you don't get a sewage bill however you do need to have the septic system serviced occasionally.
no bill is a great thing. the basics are whats important to maintain a septic system. watch what types of chemicals you are using. remember your system works on the fact that bacteria breaks down solid waste. so harsh chemicals are not good for the system. no grease no chlorine bleach etc. if you keep the system healthy it will work forever. you should not have to have it pumped out unless its not working correctly. as long as you use care in what you put down it you will be fine. BTW the chemicals they sell for them don't really work. it works all by itself as long as you play by the rules.
