What is the best way to exterminate a red harvester ant mound?
Answers:
the easiest way would be to pour a cup or two of gas in a small area on the top of the mound and walk away. Do NOT light it for two reasons, The most important would be safety, second would be, the fumes is what would kill the ants in less then a minute, if you light it the fumes burn and won't work all the way through the mound killing them all.
Other answers:
STOP! Before you start disposing of them ask yourself two questions. How many fire ant mounds do I have? How many do the neighbors have? About 10 years ago I noticed there were no fire ants within about a hundred yards of the big red ants mounds. But I had them everywhere else on the property. I went to work on the fire ants and eliminated them. But encouraged the red ants. They are much friendlier "neighbors" than the fire ants! If you must kill them Orthene works. But you might be trading one neighbor for a much worse one!
