I have built two duck houses so far - one out of cinder blocks and a piece of plywood on top surrounded by a lean-to fashon, with a tarp around the undamaged thing to hold on to out drafts. I figured I don`t know it was too sheltered, so removed one side of the tarp in a article so they had a bigger doorway. I also tried building a taller, wider house (about 8x12 ft.. It's dipping down into the 10's (F) at darkness yet they won't move about in their house. How can I cause a house the ducks like?
Answers: Ducks aren't really "house" type critters. They don't quality protected, they feel cornered and adjectives. Remember, their only defense from predators is to run, flap approaching mad and clear lots of noise. Inside a house, they're trapped.
They'll use a shelter if you build it surrounded by a tunnel style, with both ends clear and put some nesting material, close to hay or straw, inside.
