what amount of chemicals do we use to open our 18ft above ground pool for the summer?

Answers:
Go to your local pool supply company and ask their advice. There are too many variables involved for an answer. Here is a link to the locations of Leslie's Pool stores. If you have one nearby, you can take a water sample in, and they will tell you what you need, any time of year.

Start with 22-24 ounces of shock and 3-4 lbs. of Arm & Hammer soda.
Shock weekly with same amount of shock and monthly with the same amount of soda.

Test the water so you know where you are starting from. Then simply do as the test kit says. If you have a lot of algae present then "nuke" with cranular chlorine, If not use 1 pound per 10,000 gallons. Simple, huh. Your test kit is your best friend. Use it regularly to stay out of trouble!
