which is cheaper asphalt or concrete driveways?

Answers:
Asphault is cheaper in the beginning, but the upkeep with out a "proper base" would be that it will crack and bust apart, unless laid down thick.

My buddy has an asphault drive way, in West Virginia and its 3 inchs thick and its held up for 10 years, but, every so often he puts down a sealer, so that the rain doesnt get into it an "lift" the asphault... (that aint cheap).

Concrete will be expensive, and "willl" crack after a while.

You have to score it,so that the cracks dont go across the entire thing, using a diamond blade with a 1/4 inche dept.

This will last for a great many years with out any service...but, I would seal it after it has cured to keep out rain...

I wish you well...

I have never seen an asphalt driveway.. I suppose an asphalt would be cheaper but.. do you want to fool with the constant repairing of cracks(moreso than with a cement driveway)..... I know if it was mine, I would NOT EVEN CONSIDER an asphalt driveway

asphalt..
Most times asphalt ends up being cheaper. But your area and market prices of materials and labour are crucial factors to determine which one comes out cheaper in your area.
asphalt is alot cheaper.
Asphalt is definitely cheaper. It is also hard to maintain because asphalt's ingrediants are inferior to concrete.
initial cost the asphalt would be cheaper, not nearly as durable though. If the concrete driveway is installed using expansion joints you will dramatically reduce the chance of cracking in the future. The asphalt driveway will (note i said it will) need maintenance and extra expenses later to fix cracking. Not to mention when it gets really, really, hot outside it gets sticky.
asphault cheap and quick, but think is with out a proper barrier, grass can work through it and over it. i laid one cause needed something temporary and was amazed how fast the lawn tried to cover it. go with concrete.
