Draw a chalk line where they are coming in. They won't cross that.
Take a piece of cardboard like off a cereal top. Smear it with molasses and bread yeast. This is non toxic to humans but will kill the ants. For spiders you can put peppermint oil on strips of cardboard or blotter paper and hang with string by the windows where they are entering.

Not sure about spiders but ants do not like mint, cinnamon or cayene pepper. If you have a prob with ants outside, plant peppermint. I had the bug man spray our house inside and out for spiders and things and he used an all natural product and it works really well too! Whatever it is.......not sure. I just know it does not hurt animals or children.
