It's usually to make the room look larger by reflecting light.
I believe it is just a nice way to fill that big space. Also, it makes the room look larger.
i havent got a fireplace
most people don't have a fireplace anymore I don't think. they may have a gas burner which burns gas.
This is an interesting question!
I have a mirror over my fireplace because:
- i like having a big mirror, it makes the room bigger and i like looking at myself.
- it is symetrical with the fireplace. Ie. THey are parralell with each other so it makes it look neat and tidy.
- the fireplace/ mirror combo match in style so it's a good way of styling the room and making an impact.
Decoration, A fireplace doesn't cover the whole wall so people put a mirror there to fill up the space, it also makes it seem bigger
thats spooky ! right i am putting mine in the hall now!
It has to do with filling that large empty space.Mirrors are made of glass, which is much more fire resistant than a painting or most other interior decorations, and is not affected by hot,dry air.
Looks great up there too,huh?
It makes a room look bigger.
My wife stands in front of it to warm my dinner.
no mirror.........no fireplace!
I didn't know where else to put my big mirror and I am too cheap to by a nice painting.
I assume you mean mirror?!?
It's the daftest place to put it if you have an open fire for safety reasons but most people think it looks really good. Above any other fire it's obviously not a problem!
