is it cheater to leave your ac on.than to turn it on and off.?
Answers:
Set your thermostat, and let your air conditioner turn itself on when needed.

It is less expensive to keep your home at a set temperature rather than turning the AC on every time you need to cool the house down. Set it at a comfortable temp and leave it alone.

my mom did that last summer and it saved her alot. the reson is when it gets real hot in your house, you ac has to work overtime to cool it down quicker. when you leave it on, it just switches on every now and then to maintain the temperature...
it's better to leave it on so it won't take longer to cool your home, and more electric
leave it on the more you turn it on and off it has an electrical boost yeh leave it on full time
is it cheater? who are you cheating?
Oh cheaper! Call your electric company. It depends on how they are billing you. Some have cheaper rates if you use continuous power, and more expensive startup rates.
Leave it on. That way it doesn't have to keep working to cool down when you keep turning it back on. Also use ceiling fans.
I have my AC on a programmable thermosat and setting the AC to higher temps when no one is in the house does save money. But, it is dependent on how long you you turn off the AC. If you are leaving for several hours, or at night when you are sleeping, then there is a cost benefit. But if you are turning it off or setting to a higher temp for less than 2 hours, you are better leaving it on.
Get a programmable thermosat, they are cheap and easy to install.
It is less expensive to leave it on. When you turn it on and off it has to start from scratch each time it cools your house and that uses more energy than just maintaining an even temp. If it gets too cold on you when you leave it on try setting it on a lower setting. My window air conditioner has a thermostat so that you can set it a a specific temp. I keep it on about 72-75 which is comfortable in the day and doesn't freeze me at night. If you have a window unit it's also good to put it in a window that doesn't get direct mid day sun. That way the unit doesn't have to work as hard to produce cool air during the hottest part of the day.
