Is it middle-of-the-road for gas fires to grasp soot on the surround?

It was serviced a couple of weeks ago, and I own a battery carbon monoxide right by it. But I've notice a slight soot build up above it now that it never used to own. Is it safe to use?

Answers:    No it is not risk-free to use, this is what is called 'spillage' of the products of combustion, gas fires should not defile decor, or the surround, turn it off and take the engineer fund, if he does'nt sort it, ask for a refund and grasp another engineer.
i would make conversation to who serviced it, if the carbon indicator is ok that is polite, clean it up and see if it comes support, the seals may own gone
