Most realtors will do it in a few hours and it doesn't cost you a dime. (Your realtor will do it for brownie points--just remember it when you go house shopping.)

get the address and go to the county assessor's office and look at the tax records. the owner's name and address should be in there
Go to the tax assessor's office. They will be able to tell you who paid the taxes. You can also do a title search with whatever dept of the county handles recording deeds and land transactions. Good luck.

go to the county court house research the titles & deeds then go to the tax assesor office see who has been getting the taxes on the property if this doesn't pan at talk to neighbors in the vicinty but usually a search of the title & deeds abstract office can be best place to get some answers if the house has been abandoned for yrs.
