Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) makes me very excited. What do you think of that? Is it okay?

It is good for some things. It is not good for things that will get a high degree of abuse or wear and tear. Painted furniture can be made from it is the piece is more decorative than functional. It does not stand up to a great deal of moisture and will tend to dent or become damaged if struck as in a piece of door trim. Corners are the most susceptible to damage.
I would not use it for a kitchen cabinet or bathroom cabinet. I have used it for inexpensive entertainment centers and cabinets for craft rooms. It makes good drawer sides and bottoms. I have also used it for small book cases or what-not shelves that hold decorative items.
I have used it for window trim where a shape such as a half circle was required.
It holds its shape and tends to stay flat but can tend to bow if one side is painted and the other is not. It makes a lot of fine dust and tends to dull saw blades and router bits more than regular wood.
You need to use coarse threaded screws and pre-drill. If screwing into the "end grain" of MDF it can split if the screw is near an edge.
The flat portion takes paint well but the edges tend to be porous and need to be sealed and sanded with care.
Only experience can tell you where it is a good choice and where to avoid using it. I can forward pics of some items I have made using MDF.
