POND HELP PLEASE! thank yall?

i live in south alabama, close to the florida line, and i have a fish pond that is fairly big. here recently in the last year it has been overtaken by lily pads. there is only one patch that you can actually see water, and the rest is filled with nothing but lily pads. any suggestions on how to get rid of this madness? it makes my whole yard look like Crap, and im tired of it...please help!!!!!
