Why do commercial buildings enjoy flat roofs and residential buildings own triangular?
I understand that generous buildings such as a walmart would need a flat roof for clear reasons, but even small buildings similar to gas stations have them.
Is nearby any financial advantage to any? heating costs? maintainace? materials?
Answers: mostly, commercial buildings hold flat roofs because they dont need attic space...they can afford steel pub joists to bar snow loads and all the roof drains required...i similar to flat roofs but not practical within this snow belt...pitched roof is cheaper and more practical and you gotta fill your attic next to stuff...where will your grandkids progress to laugh at adjectives the old clothes you used to wear...
I live within a flat-roofed adobe.... I can testify this isn't the way to design a roof where on earth there's any snow loading and freezing of the drains when the sun doesn't reach them.
But if you're building it at hand are probably a lot of workarounds you could do surrounded by the design to circumvent most of the downsides.
You don't want a flat roof unless you have to. A pitched roof is much better when it comes to leak and rain.
