How do I eliminate fruit flies?

In a FINE mist spray bottle, mix equal parts of water and ammonia. Carefully spray them in mid air-careful not to over spray onto your plants! If this does not work , increase the amount of ammonia. But be careful with it around food, pets, pets food and water bowls, plants that you want to keep alive,... and, oh yes, children too.
If they are coming from a drain, simply pour the ammonia(full strength) down the drain. About 1 or 2 cups. AND don't use any Bleach with it!! Ha Ha (unless you just really want to) NOT!

the only way i know if is to starve them by putting any sort of food they can eat away, where they can't get to it. they have very short life spans and have to eat like constantly, so if you put every bit of fruit away (in the fridge or in a covered container) and put your trash out immediately for about a week, they will be gone. the adults will die and any eggs that hatch will die for lack of food, and that will be that
You might give this a try:
Pour soda pop (Coke or Pepsi) in the bottom of a plastic cup about 1" deep. If you happen to have one of the lids that come from a fast food place, that's perfect. If not, cover with plastic wrap and hold in place with a rubber band. Insert a straw halfway in and cut off the top. The insects (fruit flies/gnats) will crawl into the straw to the liquid but will not be able to get out. Use regular--not diet--soda. Best of luck!
I used to have trouble with fruit flies. They sell sticky fly paper for getting rid of them. It seems to work fairly quickly. You also want to make sure you keep your fruits and veggies in the fridge so the fruit flies will not eat from them. Good luck!
