In my apartment there is a through the wall box underneath my windows that slide horizontally. I bought an A/C 6,1000 BTU unit and put it in the through the wall spot. It stopped working after 4 days, I returned it a week ago and the new one is now not cooling as it should. Is this beause i have a window unit in the wall, am I doing something wrong or do you think its the unlikely possibility that i got 2 defective units?
Answers:
Window units need to be pitched downward on the outside in order for water to drain. Check to see that you have about seven degrees of pitch.

I've seen many window units put into the wall but only higher up. Make sure you didn't buy too small of a BTU for the room size. Maybe you're burning it up?

through the wall a/c units are common and no different than a window unit. This may sound stupid but make sure that the outside end of your opening is open and not blocked off at all as the unit needs to "breath" to the outside.
Yes. Be sure to consult a carpenter before cutting through an exterior wall. It should be framed like a window if your unit is bigger than 24 inches.
