Why does the top of the soil of my plants obtain moldy?

i know it could be from over watering sometimes, but i got a exotic plant, it said keep moist, but it simply covered in mould immediately. it happens sometimes to my other houseplants too.
what am i doing wrong?
i try to steadfastly water my plants every monday, and merely once a week.

Answers:    Water your plant from the bottom if the pot has a hole surrounded by it. Put a pot saucer under the pot. Only river when the top of the soil is dry. Your plants may not need watering once a week inside your home especially since of some of the modern potting soils are designed to hold moisture longer.
you involve a small fan to circulate the heavens in the room...basically a Little one should do the trick!! and do let the soil capture a bit dry between waterings..that should do it!!
