Why is it that Florida homes does not have basements?

Answers:
The water table in Florida is pretty low, so basements would flood there. Also, the ground tends to be kind of swampy, so as it shifted, basements would settle so the walls and foundation would be more prone to warping, cracking, and leaking. It just isn't very feasible to have basements in Florida.

Other answers:
Florida homes are approximately 10 feet above the water table.

cause then you'd have a small basement, if you go six feet down youd hit the aquifers, so thats why we cant have basements.
We do in some places....However, in most of Florida you'd have an indoor pool instead of a basement.
one word FLOOD
because they don't need it.. think about it the last place you want to be in during a Hurricane is a basement.. tidal surge would flood the basement and then what??? Whenever a Hurricane is coming i pack up and leave.... after Katrina the safest place to be for a Hurricane is in another state...

to low water table
Because they would be full of water, so they build all their homes on cement slabs.
