Orange residue in bathroom?

My bathroom gets an orange residue on the walls and ceiling, and I'm wondering what it is and what causes it. I'm not sure if it's caused by something in the water that's left behind when the steam dries, but that's my best guess. It seems a little sticky, but wipes up ok most of the time. Sometimes it leaves just a slight haze, other times I might see a drip of it somewhere. Anyone have this or know what it is?

Answers:
It is from the water, and that means your water is whats called hard water. My water is the same way, and it is more work than soft water, cause even the cats water bowls get it , and I have to wash them everyday. Hard water can be annoying, and upsetting to the stomach, and hair!

It is from minerals in hard water. You could get a water softener, or just deal with it. We have the same trouble.

It's probably nicotine (from previous cigarette smoke) in the bathroom. The only time I saw something similar to what your saying is in my father's bathroom (heavy smoker) after a shower when the steam is beading on the ceiling it turns an orange color because of the nicotine on the paint.
It's ecto-plasm. Your crapper is haunted. Get out now!
Could be either hard water or nicotine. I've had it before in the shower. It cleans off real easy by just spraying it with 409 and wiping it off with either a damp cloth or squeegee.
